This summer I had the privilege of being asked to help bring a 1952 American LaFrance Firetruck back from "the dead."
The paint was extremely oxidized, as the truck had been sitting in the hot Texas sun for approximately 12 years. While the experts over at D&B Automotive on S. 1st Street worked on the mechanical issues with the firetruck, I went to work, in order to restore the firetruck to her former glory, all in time for a local 4th of July Parade. Even I had my moments of doubt; she was pretty far gone.
While it took almost a full week to clean all the instruments, trim, chrome (which there is a TON of on these antique beauties), compound to remove the oxidized paint, polish to bring the gloss back, and then wax to preserve the restored finish, I think the pictures speak for themselves.
I want to thank Dennis at D&B Automotive for giving me the chance to have a hand in the restoration of this classic, and for letting me work on the kind of project I truly love. --- Jim Laga, Owner, Perfection Auto Detailing
